The term "blog", coined in late 1997, is a shortened form of "web log".
A personal blog is a website, or section of a website, dedicated to the expression of an individual person's ideas, opinions, experiences and so on.
Business, news, political and social organisations use blogs to communicate with customers or other members of the public.
The content of a blog is usually in date order, or in categories, or both.
Although most blog content is text, it can also include images, such as photographs and artwork, or video. Sometimes readers can post their own comments in response to blog entries.
"Blog" is also a verb that means to work on a blog, as in "I am going to blog tonight".
Blogging software makes it easy to create, publish and edit content, post comments, link to other blogs and organise content.
