An electronic file in a format that displays a picture, photo, diagram, map, animation, or other visual element on a web page.

Commonly used image file formats are jpeg (joint photographic experts group), bmp (bitmap), gif (graphics interchange format), and eps (encapsulated PostScript).

Software can't read words in images. If you use graphics on your website to present important information, it will be invisible to search engines and screen readers for sight-impaired people. To compensate, you need to repeat key points in the site's code, using features such as alt-text.
