Website Lifecycle Diagram (content creation phase)

Content Creation Phase

What happens

You focus most of your attention on the words that will be on each page, and other content
such as product photographs, diagrams and videos.

What to aim for

Substantial progress with the gathering and preparation of most, if not all, of your
website's content.

Key concepts

It takes longer to create quality content than most people think. This is one of the most common reasons for delays in the completion of websites, so factor in plenty of time.

Prioritise, produce important material first and fill gaps later. Tasks like writing copy and selecting images can continue during subsequent phases.

Liaise with your web development company to find out when they need your content and in what format.

Some examples of different types of content are

  • written content with information that people will read on their screens
  • images such as product photographs, process diagrams and maps
  • downloadable documents for detail that print can deliver more effectively
  • video for engaging audio-visual communication
